Vernon Loutsch , 101, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin following the Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. There will be a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to the family in care of Rexwinkel Funeral Home, PO Box 711, Le Mars, IA 51031, for a cause to be decided at a later date.

Vernon Leonard Loutsch, the son of Dominic and Catherine (Niehus) Loutsch, was born on September 3, 1921, on the family farm near Remsen, Iowa. Vernon was raised in the Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in Remsen in 1939.

He farmed with his dad until he entered the United States Army in September of 1945. He served his country while stationed in Japan. He was honorably discharged in January of 1947.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie McCarthy on November 27, 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska. The couple farmed and raised livestock in Plymouth County, Iowa, spending most of that time on a farm east of Le Mars. They were blessed with seven children.

Vernon was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. He was also a member of the American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3328 of Remsen, Iowa. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1466 of Le Mars. He enjoyed going to horse races and to cattle sales. His favorite activity was farming! Even in his later years, he was known to help and give advice to his sons.

Vernon was well known in the Le Mars area for his words of wisdom. There was no such word as "can't" in his vocabulary. He was also known to say, "Do you have rocks in your head!"  Patience was not always Vernon's strong point.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 74 years, Marjorie of Le Mars; his children: Diane (Bob) Jones of Le Mars, Cathy (Tom) Homan of Mason City, IA, Barb Saults (Rich King) of Norfolk, NE, Tom (Deb) Loutsch of Le Mars, Nancy Hallett of Shakopee, MN, Kevin (Betty) Loutsch of Le Mars, IA, and Lisa (Greg) Parker of Cedar Rapids, IA; 22 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; his sisters: Collette Wright of Moville, IA, and Alice Seuntjens of Kingsley, IA; his sisters in law: LaVonne Loutsch and Joyce Loutsch of Remsen, IA, Alice Reeg and Ellen Livingston of Sioux City, IA; his brothers in law: Daniel McCarthy of Sioux City, IA, and Jack (Madonna) McCarthy of State Center, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Catherine Loutsch; his father and mother in law, Daniel and Helen McCarthy; his brothers: John (Cleo) Loutsch, Gene (Mary) Loutsch, Art (Dorothy) Loutsch, Paul Loutsch, and Dale Loutsch; his sisters: Delores (Alvin) Groepper, Norma (Les Sheehan and Emmert Tentinger) Tentinger, and Kathleen (Ken) Groepper; brothers and sisters in law: Farrell Wright, Mick Seuntjens, Pat (Ruth) Rooney, Marilyn McCarthy, Sam (Mary Rose) Morgan, Thomas (Margaret) McCarthy, Chuck Livingston, Gerald Reeg, Carol McCarthy, and Judith McCarthy; his son in law, Craig Hallett; and a great granddaughter, Baker Loutsch.
