Vernon C. Stabe , Age 93, passed away peacefully into God's arms, surrounded by his loving family at Floyd Valley Hospital, Le Mars, IA on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday September 26th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 29014 Lake Ave, Hinton, IA.   Reverend Dr. Klaus Raab will officiate.  Burial will be at the Trinity Lutheran cemetery with lunch to follow at the Hinton Community Center, everyone please join us.  Visitation with the family present will be Sunday, September 25th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.  There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Vernon's name to Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen and Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton.

Vernon Carl Stabe was born April 6, 1929, to Karl Stabe and Amanda Heimgartner Stabe.  Vernon was raised on a 3rd generation family farm east rural Hinton. The Stabe family farm was founded in 1884 by his grandfather, Johann Stabe. He attended country school which was walking distance of the farm. Vernon started farming with horses at a very young age and his love for horses, driving teams and farming developed into a lifelong passion. On August 26th, 1950, Vernon married the love of his life, Elsie Sitzmann and they settled on the family farm and started their life together building a wonderful family. The couple lived on the Stabe Family Farm for over 60 years and raised six kids. He took over the family farm raising crops and livestock in 1972 and with the help and dedication of Randy by his side each day they poured everything they had into making the farm a success until Vernon moved into town in 2018. In 1958 Vernon went to school in Mason City, IA to become an Auctioneer and later established Stabe Auction and Realty with his wife, Elsie. In 1976 he was joined by his son and Auctioneer Randy building successful years of sales conducting well over 1,000 auctions!  Colonel Stabe was also known as Dr. Ben Dova (volunteering as a St. Luke's Caring Clown) for many years bringing cheer and good wishes to patients all along the way. He also volunteered his time at numerous area organizations conducting charity auctions raising funds for a cause and this has been carried on by Randy to this day. At Christmas time, he could be seen around town dressed as Santa as he volunteered for multiple engagements and charities in that role bringing Christmas cheer to the Siouxland community. He was also a wedding minister and presided over some very special wedding ceremonies for family and friends.

Vernon will be fondly remembered for his unbelievably strong faith and commitment to the Lord. He was incredibly proud of the life he built with Elsie in raising their family with the same beliefs and grass roots. He was dedicated to his faith, family and his love of the land and the animals he raised and

nurtured. He shared his love for music by singing for everyone and spreading joy with his voice. He LOVED to sing!!! He was very quick witted, full of sarcasm with a keen sense of humor. His hard-working nature, being an amazing caregiver, incredible father, grandfather and great grandfather and ability to respond to anyone in need at a moment's notice was an obvious strength. He lived a long and full life and one he can be extremely proud of.

Survivors include 5 of their 6 children: Bob (Sheila) Stabe, Jeanne (Henrik) Petersen, Randy (Shelley) Stabe; Teresa (Scott) Petty; and Dennis (Karlene) Stabe and son in law, Steve Langel; 20 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; his daughter, LuAnn Langel, son – Donny (in infancy), and his parents, Karl and Amanda; brothers, Ralph, Rueben, Marvin, and sisters Esther, Hilda and Agnes.

Pallbearers will be Vernon's grandsons: Ben Stabe, Bryce Stabe, Jeff Lackore, James Stabe, Marcus Stabe, Tyler Petty, Dustin Petty, Brian Langel, Brent Langel, Caden Stabe and Chase Stabe.  Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon's granddaughters: Christa Adamson, Missy Kerns, Marcia Masker, Brittany Stabe, Kaitlyn Stabe, Kaylee Stabe, Lindsey Petty, Miranda Stabe, and Addison Stabe.

The family would like to extend a special THANK YOU to the caregivers and staff at Bavarian Meadows in Remsen for their loving care of DAD.    They treated him like family, and he felt right at home.
