Virgil L. Willer, 97 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Memorial Service will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 13, 2026 at Adaville Church in rural Merrill, Iowa. Private family burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will continue until the service time on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Adaville Church or the Akron Care Center.
Virgil Lee Willer was born on August 6, 1928 in Akron to Henry S. and Mabel (Rozell) Willer. He was raised in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1947. Virgil was drafted into the United States Army; he was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1951 after his mother passed away.
Virgil was united in marriage to Marjorie Myrtle Herman on December 1, 1953 at Adaville United Methodist Church. They were blessed with four sons: Grayling, Monty, Lonny, and Tierney. Virgil became a member of Adaville Church where he was on the council for a term and also volunteered on the building committee for the church addition project.
Virgil was a life-long farmer. He was out helping on the farm as a young child and began full time farming as soon as he graduated. Virgil and Marjorie made their home on a farmstead in Westfield Township where they lived and farmed for 40 years. Virgil raised cattle, hogs, and chickens while also growing corn, oats, and hay. After he retired, they moved into Akron. Marjorie passed away in 2018 and Virgil became a resident at the Akron Care Center in 2020.
Virgil is survived by two sons: Grayling (Janet) Willer of Akron and Lonny (Robin) Willer of Le Mars; three grandchildren: Austin (Emily) Willer of Akron and their children: Hallie, Cora, and Tucker, Chet (Cindy) Willer of Akron and their children: Milo and Beckett, and Jordan Willer of Le Mars and her son, Jameson; brother, Stan (Carol) Willer of Le Mars; 2 sisters in law: Gladys Mroczkowski and Shirley Baker; two brothers in law: Milford (Sharon) Herman and Don (Gloria) Herman; and many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents; parents in law, Harvey and Mabel Herman; wife, Marjorie; two sons: Monty Willer and Tierney Willer; his siblings in law: Eva (Harry) Varenhorst, Milton (Elizabeth) Herman, Gerald Herman, Willard (Stella) Herman, Duane (Nancy) Herman, Deloris (Don) Bohlken, Leland Herman in infancy, Bob Mroczkowski, and Verlyn Baker.
