Waneta F. Sitzman, 99 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery - Neptune in rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at noon on Thursday and continue until the service time.

Waneta Faye Workman was born on May 28, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to David and Ella (McGuire) Workman. She moved to Sioux City where she began working at the packing plant. Waneta worked various jobs over the years in Sioux City, mostly in food production.
Waneta met and was united in marriage to Eldon Sitzman Sr. They had 11 children and they later divorced. In her retirement, she moved to Akron to live with her son, Pat.
Waneta loved watching Gunsmoke and doing crossword puzzles. She was a talented seamstress, making lots of clothing for her children and mending items. She grew a large garden and canned her produce. She also always had rhubarb and made lots of rhubarb baked goods. She loved cooking for her family and hosting holiday meals. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. For a few years, Waneta lived in Bemidji, MN where she enjoyed the wildlife and outdoors. She enjoyed traveling, especially to visit family.
Waneta is survived by six children: Anna Marie (Bobby) Gag, Christina (Ronald) Loftus, Martin Sitzman, Dorothy (Larry) Yanak, Barb Sitzman, and Leslie Sitzman; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister: Janie Kittle; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Waneta is preceded in death by her parents; five children: Eldon Sitzman Jr, Charles Sitzman, Shelia Sitzman, Pat Sitzman, and Dallas Sitzman; grandson, Bobby Shimitz; great grandson, Mikhail Broyhill; a great granddaughter, Nikita Broyhill; and siblings: Junior, Louise, and Raymond.
