Wendell "Hugh" Boylan was born on December 3, 1935, in Le Mars, Iowa, to Lois and Wendell Boylan. He attended Le Mars Community High School, graduating with the Class of 1953, and went on to Iowa State University, studying Electrical Engineering for four years. After college, Hugh returned to Le Mars to help run the family business, the B&B Store.

On August 10, 1961, Hugh married Carol Kemp, and together they made their home in Le Mars. Over the years, Hugh operated Radio Shack, which later became B&B Electronics, and he and Carol co-owned the L&D Lounge until 1984.

Hugh had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed storm chasing, flying remote control airplanes, and slot-car racing, and he was active in the local Drum & Bugle Corps. He also contributed his time assisting the Le Mars Police Department in various capacities.

A devoted Iowa State Cyclones fan, Hugh passed his love of the team on to his children and grandchildren. He was also proud of his family's involvement with Le Mars Community Schools and was a familiar face at Bulldog activities over the years.

Hugh is lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Carol; their children: Christie (Tim) Graettinger of Cherokee, IA, Wendy Boylan, Julie Arens, and Scott (Mona) Boylan, all of Le Mars; six grandchildren: Tully, Josh (Rose Ann), Logan, Alec (Karissa), Dylan, and Carter (Sophie); and four great-grandchildren: Allie, Cody, Savannah, and Bexlie. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Wendell Boylan; his brother, Richard Boylan; a sister in infancy; and his parents-in-law, Leona and Orren Kemp.
