William 'Bill' Baugous, 91 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 12, 2024 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Military Honors will be provided by Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2024 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Le Mars. William Warren Baugous was born on August 9, 1933 in Sioux City, IA to Ralph and Marie Baugous. He was raised near Homer, NE where he attended school and graduated from Homer High School in 1951. Bill shortly after enlisted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict and was later honorably discharged. Bill was united in marriage to Marleen Wenbourne on October 21, 1955 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA. They first made their home in Axtell, NE, later moving to Sioux City, Le Mars, and then to Omaha. Bill primarily worked as a truck driver, but he had work experience in farming, irrigation, and also owned the truck stop in Le Mars for several years. After Bill retired due to his health, Bill and Marleen moved back to Le Mars in 2017.
Bill was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He was also a 50-year member of the Wamser American Legion in Le Mars and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club of Le Mars.
Bill loved to ride his motorcycle; he and Marleen took many trips across the country on motorcycle. Bill had a strong work ethic and was a dedicated driver. He was honored in 1998 as the Trucker of the Year for the state of Nebraska. Bill enjoyed his time off work spending it with his family and volunteering for the legion and eagles club.
Bill is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marleen; two sons: Ronald (Debra) Baugous of Jacksonville, Florida and Bennett (Tammra) Baugous of Le Mars, Iowa; five grandchildren: Shane Baugous, Shad Baugous, Sandra Villalobos, Jenna Baugous, and Crystal Finchum; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister, Marian Brown; siblings in law: Joyce (Alden) Berkenpas, Patty Peterson, Michael (Bonnie) Wenbourne, and Margaret Hink; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; parents in law, Harold and Ruth (Cottrell) Wenbourne; siblings: Ralph 'Sonny' Baugous, John (Dovey) Baugous, and Ruth (Dale) Soderquist; and brothers in law: Roger Brown, Michael Peterson, and Dale Hink.
