William "Billy" Bunjes , 44, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Reverend Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Visitation with the family present will be any time after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. There will be a Parish Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
William Michael Bunjes was born January 21, 1978 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Rocky and Susan (Mullally) Bunjes. He attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1997. While in high school, he played on the Bulldog football team. He also began working for the family restaurant, Lally's Eastside in Le Mars.
Following high school, he began his career in construction, working alongside his father and brother Matt in the family business, Bunjes Builders. He also continued to work part-time for Lally's.
It was during his time at Lally's that he met his future wife, Josie Gerrietts. They were united in marriage on April 28, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. Billy was currently working at Bunjes Builders.
Billy enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, playing pool, and golfing. He also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing chess. He will be remembered for his charming personality. He was always the life of the party! Many will remember him for his willingness to help others in need.
Survivors include his wife, Josie of Le Mars; his parents, Rocky and Susan Bunjes of Le Mars; his siblings: Dan (Rose) Bunjes of Le Mars, Matt Bunjes of Le Mars, and Beth Bunjes of Brunsville, IA; his father and mother in law, Todd and Laurie Gerrietts of Remsen, IA; his in laws: U.S. Army Sgt Elizabeth Bartholomaus (Blake) of Boone, IA, Mindy Gerrietts of Copenhagen, NY, U.S. Marines LCPL Adam Gerrietts of Washington, DC, and Jacob, Isaiah, Samuel, and Abraham Gerrietts, all of Remsen, IA; 3 nephews, his god son, Beau Brand Bunjes, and David and Wyatt Bartholomaus; his niece, Olivia Ruskamp; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his fur babies, Sadie, Lola, and Severus.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, Walter and Dorothy Bunjes and Mike and Marie Mullally; 2 brothers in law, Matthew and Daniel Gerrietts; and his fur baby, Pedro.
