William 'Bill' Rabey, 81, of Akron, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 18, 2024, in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Pastor Susan Juilfs will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron will be at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. William Odin Rabey, the son of George and Irene (Huffdahl) Rabey, was born on June 13, 1943, in Hudson, South Dakota. He attended school in Alcester, South Dakota, where he graduated from Alcester High School. Following high school, he worked various jobs.

He enlisted in the United States Army on March 27, 1963. Following his basic training, he served his country while stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged on June 7, 1963. He was united in marriage to Norma De Vries on June 7, 1963, in Hawarden, Iowa. Norma passed away on January 24, 2024. They lived in Lawton, OK, while Bill was in the military. After his discharge from the service, they lived in Fort Hood, TX, Hawarden, IA, and Merrill, IA, for a brief time before making their home in Akron, Iowa, in 1973. Bill went to work for a packing house in Sioux City before going to work for Transico Railroad. After his time there, he began working for Heyl Truck Lines in Akron. He worked there as a dispatcher until his retirement.

Bill was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He was also a member of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 in Akron, where he helped with many activities, including calling bingo and the Veterans Day events. Bill also served on the planning and zoning board for Akron for many years. Bill and Norma enjoyed working together for over 12 years as hosts for the Scenic Park campground in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, and going to the movies. His greatest enjoyment was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his four children: Jeffrey (Robin) Rabey of Prior Lake, MN, Brenda (Jason) Combs of Akron, IA, Stacey (Lori) Rabey of Akron, IA, and Melissa Hughes of Akron, IA; 9 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; his siblings: George Rabey of Spokane, WA, Kris Larson of Jackson, CA, and Zelda (Lloyd) Kiyojima of Keaau, HI; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene Rabey; his wife, Norma Rabey; his brother, John Rabey; his son in law, Rob Hughes; two grandchildren: Lucas Rabey and Kenzie Combs; and his in laws, Veronica Rabey, Dale Larson, and Mary Rabey.
