Wilma G. (Stevens) Hummel, 91, of Akron and formerly of Westfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Wilma was born in Sioux City on September 25, 1933, to Lester and Nora (Goldsborough) Stevens. Wilma was raised in the Westfield area by her dad and her grandparents, Ray and Ina Stevens.

Wilma attended Westfield Community School, receiving her GED later. On August 19, 1950, she married Arnold J. Hummel in Sioux City. They celebrated 65 years before Arnie's passing in 2015. Together their most significant accomplishment was raising three children: Veronica, Richard (Dick) and Alan. She had an outstanding work ethic, was an excellent homemaker and was a skilled seamstress; she could make a pattern for just about anything she wanted to sew, turning out amazing results.

In the mid-60s, Wilma joined the outside work force, working jobs at Coil Craft, Zenith Radio (supervisor), Home Interiors, IPS (Iowa Parcel Service) and Gateway Computers (Quality Control) retiring from there in 1999. IPS being her favorite job.

When the kids would move, Wilma enjoyed traveling to and checking out their new house and new areas they moved to. In retirement years, Wilma made baby blankets for Sioux City hospitals, worked on quilts, enjoyed events at Brown's theater, bus trips to the casino, traveling the U.S. with her adult children and her little Magnolia tree which had a lot of flowers this year.

Wilma leaves behind a strong family tree. Survivors include three children: Veronica (Bill) Porter of Brady, Nebraska, Richard (Dick) of Overbrook, KS, and Alan of Indianola, IA.; nine grandchildren: Stephanie, Jim, Michael, Daniel, Shane, Mindi, Jyma, Hayes, and Joshua; 26 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren with number 17 due in August; three sisters-in-law: Eva Dye of Millbrae, CA, Nettie Dunham of Alcester SD and Mavis Klein of Elk Point SD; two brothers-in-law: Hank (Sherry) Hummel of Gibson City, IL and Robert (Laurel) Hummel of Hartselle, AL; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Arnold; parents, Lester and Ruby Stevens; in-laws, Lynn and Clementine Hummel; daughters-in-law: Pamela Hummel and Linda Hummel; grandsons: Lucas and Ben Hummel; brother, Robert Dye; sisters-in-law: Caroline Hummel and Marion Ross; brothers-in-law: Ronald Klein, Robert Dunham and Guy "Buster" Ross.

We would like to give special thanks to Floyd Valley Hospital Home Health and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent care of our mom, especially Missy, Shelia, Angel and Richard.
